LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER
Where are you from?
I am originally from Chicago (via Providence, RI).
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your philosophies?
I’m a mother to two amazing souls, a partner and wife, a mental health therapist (LCSW), and a full time laundress! I believe in the radical notion that babies and children are people. That parenting is people making; that raising children and nurturing babies to be connected, emphatic, compassionate, contented people is social justice work and where peace activism starts. I have a large gap between my kids, (8 years) so I feel so deeply steeped in so many parts different parts of childhood and parenthood at this point in my life. This serves as an illuminating reminder that children really do become what they experience and no phase, no matter how wonderful or how challenging, lasts very long!
I have been working as a therapist with individuals, couples and families for over 12 years and completed my MSW at Boston University. Most recently I served as the Director of an Outpatient Community Mental Health Center in LA County. My practice has included training and supervising other therapists to incorporate nonviolence and trauma informed care into their practice. I am passionate about healing trauma, depression and anxiety, and helping families make big life transitions. I love to focus on infant mental health, interpersonal neurobiology and mindfulness practice. I am also a Certified Teacher of Nonviolent Parenting and Education.
I knit, grow veggies, make lotion, make jam, love to cook, and I am re-learning how to sew. I love all things crafty and homegrown/made.
What is your favorite baked good?
Though not a technical 'baked good', I do love simple creme brûlées and custards.
What is your favorite quote?
"If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children." – Gandhi
Stephanie is one of our in-staff therapist. She also runs our weekly groups for family members and your newborn.
